MX-2424 Owners, While our development partner, TimeLine, was running tests with MX-View, it became apparent that for intensive editing operations of the software, the amount of RAM that was included with the MX-2424 (128MB) prior to November 2001 does not allow for functionality under all circumstances. Their findings state that the preferred amount of RAM is 256MB. With version 3.XX the MX-2424 operating system is capable of recognizing 256MB of RAM. Menu 988 in version 3.XX will tell you how much RAM is in your MX-2424. While most MX-2424 owners will want to take advantage of MX-View’s expanded capabilities, depending on your use and application, you may or may not need to perform the upgrade to 256MB: - If you work exclusively in TapeMode and thus do not do any editing, 128MB is sufficient. - If you work from the front panel or RC-2424 without the use of MX-View, 128MB is sufficient. - If you primarily use your MX-2424 for single-pass recording that does not involve punching or editing (such as live concert recording), 128MB is sufficient. In the above situations, Waveform Record in Menu 570 should be turned off. - If you will be using MX-View’s powerful waveform editing capabilities, you should upgrade to 256MB of RAM. Note that version 3.xx software includes a “Memory Low” warning message, allowing a safety margin to unmount a memory-challenged project without problems if you are running an MX-2424 with 128MB of installed RAM. This message indicates that the way in which the MX-2424 is being used requires the upgrade to 256MB of RAM. Turning off Waveforms in the View menu within MX-View will reduce the amount of RAM required by the operating system until the upgrade can be performed. To achieve maximum possible performance the MX-2424 utilizes a high specification type of RAM that has been tested and found reliable. Other types of commonly available RAM do not provide reliable operation.
