DR-2D FAQS

QuestionAnswer

If I put rechargeable batteries in the recorder, can I plug it in to the AC adapter or USB to charge the batteries?

No, you can not charge the batteries this way.

Will audio drift out of sync with my video camera?

Any two devices (audio & video) that are not being run from a common clock source will be out of "sync" with each other over time. Generally, this won't be apparent with short clips but will occur with longer form projects.

One common solution that seems to come up in forums where this issue arises are a couple of programs by a company called Singular Software: http://www.singularsoftware.com/index.html (DualEyes and PluralEyes)

A couple of articles that cover this subject.http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/thread/3052717http://philipbloom.net/2010/01/23/is/

If absolute lock is required for long periods of time, you can use our HS-P82 recorder resolved to video sync along with the camera.

Why are recordings cut off and a new recording started when they reach 2GB in size?

Because of the FAT format system employed, a single file cannot exceed 2GB. All time computations are based on the maximum file size selected in the REC SETTINGS menu, not the actual SD card capacity. However, that does not mean you cannot use the full capacity of a card larger than 2GB.If the 2GB file limit is reached, a new file is created and then the unit continues the recording.

To see the available capacity based on the actual card size being used, go to the second tab of the INFORMATION page from the MENU options.

What batteries do you recommend for TASCAM handheld recorders?

The longest battery life figures in our tests were obtained using the following batteries:

Panasonic EVOLTA AA

Sanyo eneloop rechargeable AA

How loud is the speaker on TASCAM handheld recorders?

The speaker volume may be considered low. This is because the speaker is only there to confirm that a recording was made. It was not meant to be the main monitor source. That should be done via headphones or you can also output audio to a small powered speaker system.

Which SD or Compact Flash cards do you recommend?

Unfortunately, we do not have the ability to test every company's new media card that gets released. The media cards that we do test can often be found in your product's downloads tab. Over time, these specific cards may become unavailable. At that time, it would be best to contact the CF/SD card manufacturer directly and have them suggest the model with the most similar specifications that is currently available which remains within the maximum capacity limit.

Some manufacturers' U.S. websites are listed below.

I can't hear the speaker, how do I get this to work?

Switch off the Input Monitor in the Menu > Monitor screen. Make sure the Speaker is switched On using the switch on the back panel.
