XLR/TS combo jacks allows connections with microphones with XLR jacks
The professional XLR/TS input jacks allow high quality audio input into an iPad/iPhone/iPod touch.
The terminals are designed as a combo jack, allowing users to directly plug into a guitar shield.
The XLR/TX combo jack can be connected with an electric guitar and other microphones that use XLR jacks, making vocal and acoustic guitar input via microphone possible.
The microphone input level can be adjusted via the INPUT volume on the iXZ.

Phantom power supply allows condenser microphones to be connected
In addition, a phantom power supply is also supported, enabling the connection of a professional condenser microphone.
With the iXZ, users can enjoy a variety of applications, from first practicing by connecting a dynamic microphone that is commonly available, to later producing audio by connecting a condenser microphone.
A stereo mini jack for iPad/iPhone/iPod touch output was implemented on the back panel, enabling plugging in of headphones and speakers with a built-in amplifier.
The volume can be adjusted via the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch’s volume control. With its ability to be easily used with many applications, the iXZ is a must-have tool for users who engage in music production with the iPad/iPhone/iPod touch.
Mic or Guitar-level Input

Unlike similar recording interfaces for iOS, the input of the TASCAM iXZ can be switched between microphone-level or guitar level in. When switched to guitar level, the iXZ doesn't require any power. That makes the iXZ ideal for practicing your guitar and bass as well as recording.
Switch to Microphone level to enable the microphone preamp. Phantom power is available for powering a condenser microphone for detailed instrument or voice recording. A pair of AA batteries (included) provide hours of microphone recording. A hardware gain knob controls the level of the input to your recording app. This gives you a quicker way to adjust the level than software controls – if your app even has one.
Headphone out/thru jack

Since the iXZ simply plugs into the headset jack of your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, an 1/8" headphone output jack is provided on the back of the iXZ.

FAQs
When the playback volume of the recorded track is very high, "crosstalk" can occur. This has nothing to do with the iXZ itself but with the wiring of the iPad's headphone circuitry. The only workaround is to set the lowest possible playback volume needed to perform the overdub successfully.
You must use the XLR jack when the iXZ is in microphone mode. You can not plug into the 1/4" plug with a mic signal. If your microphone only has a 1/4" output, you need to use an adapter cable with the iXZ.
PCM Recorder version 1.0.3 requires iOS6 or later.
